Nothing’s scarier than a blank canvas…
I remember when I bought my first Cricut: A head full of dreams, a pocket full of change, and no idea how to get started.
To be honest, I was terrified. What if I break it? What if I waste all this expensive material? I didn’t want to leave it alone, and I was too scared to experiment.
If you’re still stuck at that stage, then you’re exactly where you need to be.
Today I’m giving you 5 pieces of advice that’ll save your Cricut experience from turning into a nightmare.
Cricut’s Design Space is widely hated online, but the problem is, most people treat it as an advanced design software like Photoshop and Illustrator.
It’s not designed to be like that, it’s meant to serve the average Joe on their experimental journey with Cricut. If you listen to the forums, they’ll make Design Space seem like the enemy. If you give it some patience and learn from the experts, you’ll need nothing else!
Everything becomes easier and more fun when done in groups of like-minded individuals. For me, I started out my Cricut hobby feeling like the weirdo in my family.
Once I startedd digging deeper into Facebook groups, Reddit threads, and Email newsletters, I saved so much time by listening to other people’s experiences and mistakes!
Trust me, when you see other people mess up, you feel way better about your own misfortunes.
If you’re jumping from one YouTube tutorial to another, hoping to suddenly feel like the Cricut master you want to be, spoiler alert: It’s getting you nowhere.
The key is to experiment, start small, even with a sticker of your favorite soccer team’s logo, and see where it takes you.
If you mess up, it’s part of the process, and once two weeks down the road, you’ll have learned a lot more than you do now!
You see tons of people online complaining about their Cricut lagging, restarting, and Design Space giving them random errors for no reason.
90% of those errors can be attributed to cluless users doing what they think works best: I’m guilty of that myself!
Every type of material, whether it’s cloth, vinyl, metal, or Unicorn hair has its own set of instructions to be used for Cricut.
Make sure to always read yours, and spare yourself some expensive mistakes.
What’s CraftyClub? It’s my new favorite obsession after finding out about Cricut. The day I found out about CraftyClub I finally understood why people gatekeep great things and keep them to themselves.
It’s a monthly subscription that makes Cricut as simple as ABC. Here’s a gist of what’s inside:
Picture having the people who created Cricut available on speed dial: That’s what CraftyClub felt like.
All the questions I was scared to ask or didn’t have answers for online, and all the times I felt dumb because my project kept restarting: I gained infinite confidence in my ability to bring my creative projects to life!
And the best part? It cost as much as 2 cups of Starbucks per month, which felt like a steal…
